What is EXION RF Microneedling?

Think of EXION RF Microneedling as traditional microneedling with an added layer of radiofrequency energy. Microneedles create controlled channels as RF heat is delivered into selected tissue. The system monitors tissue impedance while your provider selects depth, energy and coverage.

01 · EXION RF Microneedling

RF microneedling or traditional microneedling?

Traditional microneedling uses mechanical microchannels to stimulate the skin. EXION RF Microneedling adds controlled RF heat below the surface, creating a second remodeling signal.

That added energy allows us to address more than surface texture alone. Depending on the treatment plan, EXION RF Microneedling can be used for acne scars, fine lines and mild laxity as well as general skin quality.

Neither treatment is automatically better for everyone. During your consultation, we’ll talk through your concern, skin history, desired recovery and goals before deciding which approach makes the most sense.

02 · EXION RF Microneedling

EXION RF for acne scars and enlarged pores

Acne scars are not all alike. Rolling, boxcar and icepick scars respond differently, and deeper or tethered scars sometimes need more than one type of treatment.

We begin by looking closely at your scar pattern, skin thickness, active breakouts, pigment history and previous treatments. EXION RF Microneedling can soften the look of certain depressed acne scars, smooth uneven texture and make pores appear less noticeable. It cannot erase every scar, and we’ll be honest if another treatment should be part of the plan.

03 · EXION RF Microneedling

EXION RF for the neck, décolletage and body

EXION RF Microneedling is not limited to the face. We can also treat areas where the skin has become crepey, uneven or less firm, as well as areas affected by stretch marks or certain scars.

Common treatment areas include:

  • Neck and décolletage
  • Abdomen
  • Upper arms
  • Thighs
  • Skin above the knees
  • Areas with stretch marks
  • Selected surgical or injury-related scars

Body skin varies quite a bit from one area to another, so the settings and treatment plan are adjusted accordingly. During your consultation, we’ll examine the area and discuss what EXION RF Microneedling can realistically improve.

Pair EXION RF Microneedling with ariessence pure PDGF+

Want to give your skin a little extra support after treatment? EXION RF Microneedling can be paired with ariessence pure PDGF+®, an optional topical post-procedure add-on.

PDGF stands for platelet-derived growth factor, a signaling protein naturally found in the body. ariessence combines a lab-produced form of PDGF-BB with hydrating hyaluronic acid in a sterile topical cosmetic solution. It is applied after treatment to support the appearance of calm, hydrated and healthier-looking skin as it recovers.

Clients often choose this pairing to:

  • Support post-treatment skin recovery
  • Add soothing hydration
  • Enhance the appearance of overall skin quality
  • Help minimize the look of post-treatment downtime
  • Receive a consistent growth-factor product without a blood draw

ariessence is used topically—it is not injected, and the EXION RF Microneedling device does not infuse or deliver it through the needles. It is marketed as a topical cosmetic product and is not FDA-approved as a drug, biologic or injectable treatment. As with any optional add-on, we’ll first make sure it is appropriate for your skin and treatment plan.

Collagen remodeling and treatment timing

Collagen takes time. EXION RF Microneedling results are not judged by same-day swelling or redness.

Some clients begin noticing a change in skin quality within the first several weeks. Improvement can continue over the following months as the skin remodels.

A series of three treatments is common, but there is no universal schedule. The right number depends on the concern, its severity, the treatment area, your skin’s response and the amount of downtime you are comfortable with. Maintenance treatments can be discussed as your skin continues to age.

Results vary from person to person, and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.

How many treatments will I need?

A series of three is common, but some clients need fewer or additional sessions. Your plan will depend on the concern, treatment area and how your skin responds.

When will I see results?

Results appear gradually. You may notice changes within the first several weeks, with continued improvement over the following months as collagen remodeling continues.

How much downtime should I expect?

Downtime varies. Redness, swelling and sensitivity are usually most noticeable during the first several days. Pinpoint crusting or temporary grid-like marks may take longer to settle. If you have an important event coming up, let us know so we can help you plan accordingly.

Does it hurt?

Most clients describe warmth, pressure and a prickling feeling. A personalized comfort protocol may be used, but we never promise that a medical procedure will be completely painless.

Can EXION RF Microneedling be used on darker skin tones?

Yes, it can be considered for a wide range of skin tones. Settings still need to be chosen carefully, especially if you have melasma or a history of post-inflammatory dark marks.

Will it completely remove my acne scars?

No treatment can honestly promise that. EXION RF Microneedling can improve certain depressed acne scars, but the amount of improvement varies by scar type and depth. Some scars respond better to a combination approach.

Can it treat stretch marks?

EXION RF Microneedling can improve the texture and appearance of certain stretch marks. Their age, color, depth and location all influence the expected result.

Is EXION RF Microneedling the same as regular microneedling?

No. Traditional microneedling creates mechanical microchannels. EXION RF Microneedling combines those channels with controlled radiofrequency energy below the skin’s surface.

Are stronger or deeper settings better?

Not necessarily. More energy is not automatically more effective, and it can add unnecessary risk. The goal is to reach the correct tissue safely—not to use the strongest possible setting.

Can EXION RF Microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Yes, when it makes sense. Scarring, laxity, dehydration, pigment, muscle activity and volume loss are different concerns. Combination treatments are planned only when each one has a clear purpose and can be scheduled safely.

Can I add PDGF to my EXION RF Microneedling treatment?

Yes. ariessence pure PDGF+ can be added as a topical post-procedure treatment to support hydration, recovery and healthier-looking skin. It requires no blood draw and is not injected or delivered through the EXION RF Microneedling needles. We’ll review whether it is appropriate for you before treatment.

Who should not have RF microneedling?

Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided if you have an active infection, open wounds, significant inflammation, sunburn or a recent tan. Pregnancy, certain implanted devices, healing problems, keloid history and other medical factors can also affect candidacy. We’ll review this with you before scheduling treatment.

What affects the cost of EXION RF Microneedling?

The quote depends on the exact service, treatment area and proposed course. At your Glendale consultation, we explain the recommendation and pricing before you decide. No fixed package is assumed for every patient.
