The considered approach

What is EXION Clear RF?

EXION Clear RF is a superficial resurfacing treatment on the EXION platform. Smart Microablation delivers radiofrequency energy at the skin’s surface. It is not a laser and should not be confused with deeper EXION RF Microneedling.

How Smart Microablation works

Controlled microablation creates tiny, precise treatment points at the skin’s surface.

The system adjusts energy delivery to help keep treatment zones within a consistent targeted range.

Microscopic untreated spaces between treatment zones help support recovery.

Over time, the treated skin can look smoother, clearer and more even.

Settings and coverage remain clinical decisions. More intensity is not automatically better; the appropriate plan depends on your skin tone, pigment history, treatment area, goals and recovery tolerance.

Face and neck treatment planning

The face and neck are the primary areas supported by the available Clear RF clinical evaluation. Each area is planned separately because skin thickness, sun exposure and recovery can differ.

Neck for selected sun-related discoloration and texture concerns

03 · EXION Clear RF

Skin tone, pigment history and screening

Clear RF may be considered for a range of patients, but every resurfacing treatment can cause temporary pigment change. Screening is especially important if you have a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma, recent tanning or dark marks after procedures. The preliminary clinical evaluation included Fitzpatrick skin types II through IV, so broader claims should not be made from that study alone.

Tell us about prior pigment changes, melasma, keloids and reactions to lasers, peels or energy treatments.

Treatment is generally postponed over active infection, open skin, significant inflammation, sunburn or a recent tan.

Follow the recommended skincare and sun-protection plan before and after treatment.

Contact the practice if you develop increasing pain, blistering, spreading redness, drainage or worsening pigment change.

Results and your treatment plan

Some patients notice a fresher appearance as the initial recovery settles, while continued improvement develops gradually. The number and spacing of treatments are personalized after evaluating your skin, response and goals. Published Clear RF materials describe a treatment series, but your plan should be based on your individual response rather than copied automatically from a study.

Progress is best judged with photographs taken in consistent lighting and at an appropriate follow-up—not from same-day redness, swelling or glow.

Combining Clear RF with other treatments

Yes. When different concerns are present, EXION Clear RF may be paired or sequenced with other treatments in the EXION family or with a broader skin plan. The combination should have a clear purpose, with timing based on your skin and recent procedures.

Talk to our Glendale team
Is EXION Clear RF the same as RF microneedling?

No. Both treatments use pins, but they work at very different depths and for different goals. EXION Clear RF uses a 64-pin tip to create superficial microablation in the epidermis for brown spots, visible redness, uneven tone and texture. EXION RF Microneedling places insulated microneedles at clinician-selected depths for deeper remodeling concerns such as acne scars, pores and mild laxity.

Does it treat brown spots and redness?

It is designed to improve selected visible discoloration, brown spots and red spots. A consultation is important because not every pigmented or vascular-looking concern should be treated cosmetically.

Is there downtime?

There can be. Temporary redness, warmth, swelling, dryness, bronzing or pinpoint crusting may occur. The amount of recovery depends on the treatment settings, area and your skin response.

Can it be used before an event?

Yes, but do not schedule a first treatment immediately before an important event. Plan ahead so your skin has time to recover and so the treatment timeline can be tailored to your date.

Is one treatment enough?

Some improvement may be visible after one treatment, but the best plan depends on your starting point and goals. Your response is evaluated before additional sessions are recommended.

Can EXION Clear RF be combined with EXION HA?

Yes, when both resurfacing and broader skin-quality support fit your goals. The treatments may be performed or sequenced according to your individualized plan.

What affects the cost of EXION Clear RF?

The quote depends on the exact service, treatment area and proposed course. At your Glendale consultation, we explain the recommendation and pricing before you decide. No fixed package is assumed for every patient.
